Some aspects of the mod are too tough, other aspects are too easy, so we are working on a base 'balance' at this time, which is the one part of TMO that is 'set' - but that is also because it is not being tweaked on by its author. It is based upon TMO v1.7, originally from the AOTD_MadMax team, and it has all of the ships planes and shore installations of Max's mods, but also quite a few assets of several other mods as well. It is in 'production' (a fancy word for 'tinkering'), and we are about set to unleash the next version upon the SubSim community, hopefully within the next couple of weeks. You can even play as an SSBN and fire cruise missiles at the IJN if you really want to.Being biased as I am, I'd vote for Fall of the Rising Sun Ultimate as the best overall. I did a run as a Deutschland class pocket battleship, though my deck guns had awful accuracy and there was a real risk of getting sunl by a merchant. There's also a handful of mods that let you play as surface vessels. I forget the names of these other mods, but I know there's a British sub mod and a Russian sub mod (I remembered getting mined near Leningrad A LOT). When I last played it (years ago so this may have changed) the crew was still speaking American English, but I think that's an issue hard-coded into the game. It's basically Silent Hunter 3 in Silent Hunter 4). If you're interested in the German perspective, Operation Monsun gives you a pretty thorough U-Boat campaign (not just the boats that were sent to Indonesia. I've heard good things about Run Silent Run Deep, but haven't tried it myself. I played TMO for a while, it's a pretty good overhaul mod (you get to see mk14s in all their terrible glory). Now, with TMwTW and 16 gigs of period music and news loaded in to the radio, SH4 is one of my Happy Places. It's an excellent website and a good cause, but I've enough subscriptions so I just paid, DL'd and didn't renew. Need to be a member, cost $5 last I checked. He gave the whole mod to subsimcom and it is a 'premium' file there. More difficult than stock, much more approachable than TMO. Some guy took the whole TMO mod and tweaked it to be more friendly. Then, I discovered Trigger Maru with Training Wheels (hate the name). No longer is every IJN destroyer coming right at me with glowing red eyes and a bone it their teeth. I missed a few things (a more detailed interior for one), many of which can be obtained in single mods. Never quite fully happy with it.Ī year ago I tried a vanilla install for kicks and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Spent a lot of time trying to modify it myself with little success. Really like it but always felt it was too difficult. Using Trigger Maru mega mod since it was new (now called TMO). I've been playing SH4 off and on since it came out.
